Sri Lanka army troops yesterday continued their humanitarian operation to rescue the civilians trapped inside the Safe Zone. This is the largest hostage rescue in the world’s history in Sri Lanka.

LTTE media spokesman Daya Master has just surrendered to the army along with George, the translator of former political head Thamilchelvan, military Media center for national security sources confirmed.

Daya Master is a senior member and second leader in the LTTE. From 22 March to 22 April at least 90,097 civilians were rescued reported by defense.lk in Sri Lanka.

Daya Master alias Velayutham Thayanithi born on 3rd March 1956, is one of the senior members of the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam and a former media spokesman and coordinator. He is from Thambasiddy, Puloly West, Point Pedro a region in Vadamaradchy.
He started life as a private tutor in English language and was running a private tuition centre in Puloly.

As he developed a good command in English language and was a popular language tutor in Vadamaradchy, he was called Thaya (Daya) Master.

While he was in Point Pedro, he had established contacts with the Tiger movement. Tigers began to recognize him as one of their strong supporters. They gradually took him into their fold.
